On the beat: Fine weather, fine behaviour

While fine weather is starting to bring people out in droves, that has so far failed to translate to any increase in arrests, with only a few incidents over the weekend.

Sergeant Steve Watts, of Queenstown, yesterday said the first incident came just after 5pm on Friday, when police were alerted to a burglary at Bungee Backpackers.

He said it appeared the occupants of the room had left their window ajar when leaving and, on returning, found a bag containing passports and $100 in cash had been taken.

Sgt Watts asked for anyone who might have seen the thief to contact police.

About 12.10am on Saturday, five Wanaka youths, aged between 17 and 20, were arrested for allegedly breaching the liquor ban after they were found drinking in their Ford Falcon in Camp St.

A Queenstown youth (19) was also arrested for an alleged breach of the liquor ban at 12.30am on Saturday in Rees St.

A 24-year-old Queenstown man was arrested after he was stopped in Stanley St at 3.05am on Saturday, recording a breath-alcohol reading of 533mcg .

Finally, another local 24-year-old man was arrested yesterday morning for breach of bail conditions.
