Accidents on Queenstown streets

Acting Sergeant Phil Bayne said the woman recorded a breath-alcohol level of 518mcg. She said she had swerved to avoid a cat.

• At 2.47am on Tuesday, a 20-year-old male driver was stopped at random by police and breath-tested.

• Some time last Friday night, two mountain bikes worth about $10,000 were stolen from a Copper Beach Ave address in Frankton.

Police senior intelligence analyst Senior Sergeant Sean Drader said the thieves also went into the house's garage and took associated equipment such as knee pads, shoes, gloves and a grey, black and red full-face helmet.

Snr Sgt Drader described the first bike as a 6-month-old black and white Scott brand, model Gambler, with a Bike Fix shop sticker on it.

The second bike is a black GT brand, model Fury, with red handle-bars. Both were in good condition.

Snr Sgt Drader said there were six bikes leaning up against the house and the thieves left four behind, taking the two most expensive.

He appealed for those in the "mountain bike fraternity" to check similar bikes as police had the serial numbers of the stolen bikes.

"When expensive ones go like this, it's much easier for us to spot and get them back," Snr Sgt Drader said.

• A 52-year-old local man refused to give a blood-alcohol sample to police on Thursday morning when he was pulled over near Lake Hayes Estate.

The police breath-testing machine had not been working and when the man refused to give a blood sample he was arrested. He will appear in the Queenstown District Court on Tuesday.

• A Lake Hayes man fell asleep at the wheel south of Kingston on Thursday morning and flipped his car.

Police said the 67-year-old drove across the centre line and crashed into the bank on the opposite side of the road. The car flipped on to its roof.

Police were called at 4.15am.

The man received a minor injury to his wrist.

• Police said an American national stole two confectionery bars from Queenstown's Fresh Choice at 11pm on Wednesday.

The 21-year-old was arrested and issued with a precharge warning.

• A fuel tanker containing 500 litres of diesel was stolen from contractors working on the Kawarau Bridge during the weekend.

Snr Sgt Drader appealed to the public for any information associated with the matter.

The tanker is silver with blue writing and its registration is D856Z.
