No new deputy rector as school pares management

Waitaki Boys High School will operate with a trimmed-down management team next term, after the school said that it could not afford to replace one ofits three deputy rectors.

After John Mattisson left to take up a new position as principal of Northern Southland College at the start of term three, the school would continue to run with just two deputy rectors, rector Paul Jackson said.

"We won't be replacing Mr Mattisson. We are having a management reshuffle here. One of John's biggest areas was property and the day-to-day running of the school.

We're going to share that out amongst senior management - that is already in place here.

Mr Jackson said, while Mr Mattisson's departure would be a "big loss" for the school, it also opened the door for other members of staff to take on more responsibility.
