Monitoring continues at fire scenes

Fire crews returned to check a site near Danseys Pass yesterday, following a tussock fire on Sunday.

The controlled burn spread at a rural property off Duthie Rd and covered 70ha at its height.

Two 4WD units from the Waitaki Rural Fire Force supported the Kurow crew and three helicopters that tackled the blaze.

Fire and Emergency New Zealand shift manager Andrew Norris said a crew would continue to monitor the scene.

Meanwhile, investigations into a lakeside fire near homes in Queenstown will continue.

On Sunday afternoon, firefighters were alerted to a scrub fire which was ``threatening houses'' in Kelvin Heights.

A Fenz spokesman said the site was checked yesterday.
