Waterfront Rd residents should no longer have to worry about roving Pokemon hunters lurking in their street, police say.
Senior Sergeant Jason McCoy, of Oamaru, said police received three reports of a suspicious vehicle in the street over the past week.
When police showed up they found a man and a woman playing the game Pokemon Go.
Officers had spoken to the pair about their actions and were not expecting any more concerning behaviour from them, Snr Sgt McCoy said.
''They [residents] weren't too worried when they found out [they were] Pokemon hunting.''
He offered tips for other Pokemon hunters who might be in danger of causing suspicion.
''Just be visible about what you're doing. Don't hide around corners and things like that.''
Pokemon Go was a phenomenon about six months ago, when the Otago Daily Times reported Dunedin was the Pokemon capital of New Zealand.
Snr Sgt McCoy said this was the first time Pokemon hunters had come to the attention of police in Oamaru, as far as he was aware, and it was his impression the outdoor activity geocaching was far more popular in the area.
