Marathon jetboats capable of topping 160kmh on the water will be roaring up the Waitaki River for the annual Jet Boating Otago-hosted event today.
Race organiser Pete Templeton said they made exciting viewing for spectators.
Family class jetboats are also eligible to enter and will run behind their faster counterparts.
Scrutineering is from 8am at the SH1 Waitaki Bridge before the race starts at 10am at the Ferry Rd launch site.
More than 20 boats will race to Kurow.
About noon, a criterion race will be held around the islands visible from Kurow's twin bridges.
