A Hampden man allegedly using an imitation police Glock pistol got himself in hot water last weekend.

The 32-year-old was arrested on Saturday after pointing what appeared to be a firearm at a member of the public.

The incident occurred after the man got his vehicle stuck on the side of a residential street in Hampden about 3pm on Saturday.

He then took umbridge wtih residents who witnessed his predicament, pointing the imitation firearm and allegedly attacking one of them.

Sergeant Tony Woodbridge said the firearm held by the man had the appearance of a police Glock.

The alleged offender appeared in the Timaru District Court on Monday on charges of presenting an imitation firearm, and injuring with intent to injure.

An investigation into a serious crash on Hampden Beach last Sunday continues.

An all-terrain vehicle and a motorbike collided on the beach about 12.35pm, injuring three people.

Two of the crash victims were airlifted to Dunedin Hospital with serious injuries.

Sgt Woodbridge said because a beach was officially classified as a road, the crash was a Land Transport Act matter. The police were awaiting blood tests results to determine if drugs or alcohol were involved.

A 29-year-old Waitaki man causing a ruckus at an agency in Oamaru on Monday was arrested for wilful damage. The man allegedly damaged a wall and a couch just after 1.30pm, Sgt Wilkinson said.

A 24-year-old Oamaru man arrested for allegedly contravening a protection order about 1pm on Saturday appeared in the Timaru District Court on Monday.

Two passengers sustained minor injuries in a single-car crash on Devil’s Bridge Rd, near Oamaru, just before 10pm on Saturday.

The driver, a 31-year-old Oamaru man, was charged with drink-driving and operating a vehicle with a sustained loss of traction. He had a breath-alcohol level of 688mcg.
