Fourth apparent arson incident

A fourth car has been set alight in Kurow as police investigate a series of alleged arson attacks on vehicles since Wednesday night in the town.

On Wednesday between 11pm and 11.30pm three cars - two in the town's main street and one in Wynyard St - suffered moderate to serious damage after fires were started on the inside of each vehicle.

Yesterday at about 12.30am a Toyota four-wheel-drive was also set alight in Bledisloe St, Detective Sergeant Mike Ryder said.

The fire destroyed the vehicle, which was parked at the Waitaki River end of Bledisloe St.

Police believe all four fires were linked.

Police have sought help from the community, appealing for information, no matter how trivial, about any unusual incidents in the town over those two nights about the time the vehicles were set on fire.

Detective Sergeant Ryder said they would like information about a white utility vehicle in the area about the times of yesterday's fire.

Police would also like to speak with two young men, one with a brightly coloured top, in Wynyard St on Wednesday about 11pm.
