A woman was airlifted to Dunedin Hospital in a serious condition yesterday after a crash in Airedale Rd near Weston.
Acting Sergeant Neil Rushton, of Oamaru, said the 53-year-old driver failed to take a right-hand bend and crashed into a bank, which caused the car to flip "multiple times" before coming to a stop in a paddock.
Emergency services were called to the scene about 4.45pm, and the driver, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, was found "some distance" from the car, Acting Sgt Rushton said.
It was not known if she had been flung from the vehicle or crawled out herself.
A St John spokeswoman said the driver was airlifted to Dunedin Hospital in a serious condition.
The road was reduced to one lane, then closed when the rescue helicopter landed. It reopened after 6pm.
