Bee-ware before you leap

It gives a whole new meaning to a police sting.

An Oamaru man fleeing police after reports of a fight in Clyde St on Wednesday afternoon may have thought  he had eluded the  law after he leapt  a fence to make his escape. Unfortunately for him, he landed on a beehive.

His getaway was foiled and  police were soon the least of his worries as angry bees attacked and stung him several times on the head.

The man was let off with a pre-charge warning for disorderly behaviour,  Sergeant Tony Woodbridge, of Oamaru, said.
