About $1000 was raised to help pay the Alexandra ice skating rink's hefty power bills by running an ice triathlon yesterday.
Ice Inline Sport treasurer Liz Alabaster, who organised the event, said it incorporated a 5km run, 19km cycle, and 15 laps of the ice rink, which equated to about 1.65km of skating.
Eighteen teams of two or three, and 12 individuals took part in the competition yesterday morning, Miss Alabaster said.
Most teams were made up of families, she said.
The fastest time of 1hr 4min was recorded by winning school team Cam's Team, led by Cam McHardy, followed closely by the winning family team of Malcolm McLeod and his daughter Macey (9), who finished in 1hr 6min.
Open team section winners Train On The Day and veteran team winners ABC both completed the triathlon in 1hr 11 min.
In the individual competition, Anthony Longman won the open men's section in a time of 1hr 14min, and Megan Foster won the open women's section in 1hr 23min.
School-aged male section winner Callum Geddes took 1hr 15min, while his female counterpart Nakia Randle won in 1hr 36min.
Glenn Randle won the veteran section in 1hr 8min, which was also the fastest individual time.
Miss Alabaster said it was hoped to expand the event next year to incorporate separate competitions for adults and children.
