Alexandra police are calling for the public to report what they are calling a group of teenage wannabe tough guys, following a spate of graffiti attacks in the town recently.
Constable Mike Colligan, of Alexandra, said Dunstan High School and toilet amenities at the Molyneux Park stadium were targeted by taggers on Monday night.
Words and images spray-painted on to buildings included references to "westside gangs" and "jester's crowns", Const Colligan said.
"It's just a pathetic attempt to be tough, either by someone new to the area or wannabes."
Dunstan High School had to spend $200 hiring a water-blaster to clean the graffiti off walls, which was money better spent on other school facilities, Const Colligan said.
A graffiti attack at St Gerards Primary School in Alexandra might be related, although it occurred a few days ago.
