Disruption to traffic in central Alexandra should be cleared in the next two weeks as roading upgrades are completed.
A corner of Limerick and Tarbert Sts in the central business district has been restricted to one lane as the Central Otago District Council upgrades the area.
Limerick St will be resurfaced as part of the project.
Central Otago District Council roading manager Julie Muir said the roadworks should be completed in two weeks, leaving just landscaping and minor streetscaping to be done.
Schist stonework, rubbish bins and seating are being installedin and around footpaths through the main part of town.
The upgrade has taken longer than anticipated, due to the discovery of a large power cable under pathways, wet weather, and labour-intensive work.
Work started in the first week of April, with stage one scheduled to be completed within eight weeks.
The delay prompted some central business owners to voice their frustration to the council.
One business owner estimated takings had been down by between $100 and $150 each day while the footpath outside was blocked.
Stage one was costed at $536,000, to be funded by a loan of $300,000 (to be repaid from rates), and the balance from a flood amenity fund.
