Residents voicing opinions

More than 260 people have made submissions to the Central Otago District Council about its 2008-09 draft annual plan.

Submissions, which closed last week, will be considered by the council at a meeting in Alexandra on June 4.

Of the submissions, 80 relate to the proposed change to the Alexandra ward boundary, which includes 340 properties previously designated in the Earnscleugh Manuherikia ward.

The proposed change is due to last year's Local Government Commissions ruling on electoral boundaries in New Zealand.

District council management accountant Ainslie Wilson said half of the people making submissions about the ward change wished to speak before the council on June 4.

Just five of the 103 submissions received on the Vincent Community Board's proposed continuation of funding for the Central Stories Museum and Art Gallery in Alexandra are against the funding, Ms Wilson said.

The submissions will first be heard by appropriate community boards at meetings throughout the district in May and June.
