Recreation park one step closer

Multipurpose recreational park in Ranfurly is one step closer, with the Maniototo Community Board giving the concept its approval on Thursday.

The Ranfurly Recreation Reserve Club, which proposes to lease part of Maniototo Park from the Central Otago District Council for the facility, presented its preferred option for the park site at a board meeting in Ranfurly.

Its proposed BMX track and skate park development was accepted in principle by the board in April and in June the board resolved to revoke a previous resolution preventing the park from being developed on the club's preferred site.

Four options for the proposed park site were presented to the board, of which the club's favoured concept was approved by members.

Hours of the park would be 8am to 8pm.

The All Kids Zone Park would predominantly be grassed so there will be no dust issues for surrounding property owners.

It could be finished in December.

• A trustee position on the Community Trust of Maniototo will be open to public nominations for the first time next year.

The Maniototo Community Board made the announcement at a meeting in Ranfurly on Thursday.

Chairman Richard Smith said the change did not indicate disapproval by the board of current trustee Laurie Inder, but rather the process of appointing trustees itself.

The trust lodged a request to the board, which was included in Thursday's meeting agenda, to reappoint Mr Inder as the trustee for another year.

The former Maniototo Community Board chairman was appointed as a trustee in 2004, for a period of four years.

The board was asked to extend the reappointment to 2009, which it did.

Expressions of public interest for the next trustee position will be accepted by the board next year when Mr Inder's appointment ends.
