A proposal for an additional early childhood learning centre at Ranfurly is progressing, with a public meeting planned for next month.
In June, a survey was conducted in the area to determine whether another centre was viable, and what needs within the community had to be met.
Results indicated one in three Maniototo children did not attend formal licensed early childhood education.
Travel was often an issue for families spread throughout the wider area and away from main centres such as Ranfurly.
Families with children under 5 years of age, as well as people intending to have children, were targeted.
So far, 55 responses have been received.
The proposed centre would operate between 8.30am and 3.30pm on weekdays, be staffed by trained early childhood teachers, and cater to children under 5 years.
It would be in addition to an existing play centre and home-based care services in the Maniototo.
A public meeting will be held on September 3 at the Ranfurly Golf Club from 7.30pm to discuss the proposal.
