Central Otago Art Society secretary Judy Campbell said roughly 140 works had been entered in the Queen's Birthday sale, by a range of artists predominantly from Otago.
Despite numbers being slightly down on previous years, the society hoped to raise some money to go towards public art in Alexandra, she said.
Last year's sale netted $2000 for the cause.
Mrs Campbell said the sale started about four years ago, following on from an annual charity auction of art work.
"It used to be a fundraising event for Friends of Dunstan and we decided to carry on with running something at Queen's Birthday.
The proceeds go to a charitable cause, and this year money raised will go towards public art in Alexandra," she said.
The sale opens at the Alexandra Community Centre on Skird St at 10am today and closes at 3pm on Monday.
Mrs Campbell said it was a "cash and carry" sale, so people could buy works throughout the weekend and take them home straight away.
