Nominations feature young people

Central Otago's young people have been the majority of nominations per category in this year's Central Otago Awards.

The Central Otago District Council received 35 nominations and entries for awards in eight categories, of which 11 were nominations for its three youth awards.

CODC communications and branding manager Shirley Howden said the number of entries and nominations was comparable to last year, but support was strongest for younger nominees.

The annual awards are presented in September, and this year's ceremony, the first in the Maniototo, will be at the Maniototo Stadium, Ranfurly, on September 30.

Awards used to be presented in the council's Alexandra chambers but the ceremony was moved to a separate Alexandra venue in 2007 and toCromwell in 2008.

Awards are allocated under categories of apprentice, youth, customer service, tourism, business excellence, and community service.

A special award and brand ambassador award is also presented.

The CODC will judge all nominations and entries this month.
