Central Otago's sporting fans are gearing up for the 24th annual Jimmy's Triathlon and Treliske Organics Duathlon this Saturday.
Annually organised by the Roxburgh Multisport Club, the event is one of the district's longest-running sporting competitions, and one of a few to comprise kayaking on a river rather than a lake.
Club spokesman Ian Cahill said early interest had been expressed by eager participants, who can register at the Roxburgh sports ground on Saturday morning.
Jimmy's Duathlon starts from the sports ground with a 1km run, followed by a 36km bike ride to Millers Flat return, then a 10km run.
Triathlon participants start at the Roxburgh hydro dam with a 9km paddle down the Clutha River, beaching at Roxburgh's bridge before completing the duathlon.
All competitors start at 10.30am after a 10.15am briefing, and a prizegiving at the sports ground will be held about 2pm when the last competitors cross a finish line.
Mr Cahill said the event attracted young and old competitors and organisers encouraged participation from people with varying abilities.
"Anyone can have a go.
It's a fairly easy bike ride on roads, although triathletes must have a grade two kayaking certificate.
We encourage teams to take part so everyone can be involved," he said.
About 80 people entered last year.
