An elderly Alexandra man with Alzheimer's spent the night in his car after running off the road and down a bank in Gabriel's Gully, near Lawrence.
Mr Young (81) went missing yesterday afternoon, and concerns for for his safety were growing.
He was found about 11.50am today at Jacob's Ladder. He was cold and disoriented, but otherwise unharmed.
He was taken to the medical centre at Milton for observation.
Senior Sergeant Ian Kerrisk, of Alexandra, thanked the public for their assistance.
"From information received police were able to confirm that Mr Young had travelled as far as Owaka, and finding his vehicle at Lawrence was a result of a call from a member of the public," Snr Sgt Kerrisk said.
