A man who died at the Vincent County Motorcycle Rally "passed away while he was doing what he enjoyed," one of the rally organisers said yesterday.
The man was named by police yesterday as Lyndon Gary Adams (66), of Rangiora.
There were no suspicious circumstances and the death has been referred to the coroner, Sergeant Dave Greaves, of Alexandra, said.
"He was with friends, having a good time and obviously enjoys going to rallies, so I guess you'd have to say, he passed away while he was doing what he enjoyed," Bikers Rights Organisation of New Zealand Otago president Ron McKay said.
Emergency services were called when Mr Adams collapsed at the rally site, near Alexandra, about 7pm on Friday.
"There were two nurses on site, who were at his side within half a minute, and they did the best they could, but to no avail," Mr McKay said.
Rallygoers formed a guard of honour as the hearse left the rally site, Mr McKay said.
About 1400 people from all over New Zealand attended the rally, camping by the Manuherikia River on farmland at Galloway on Friday and Saturday nights.
