The Central Otago District Council has granted Talla Burn Generation Ltd land-use consent to construct about 18km of 33kV power line to convey electricity between its hydro-electric generation facility, now under construction, and the existing Ettrick substation.
Power lines will pass through Millers Flat, but a condition of consent banned overhead power lines and associated poles within the "residential" resource area of the town. Overall consent was granted subject to 14 conditions.
The line will be constructed along CODC road reserve beside sections of the Millennium Track, although power poles along the track are to be positioned to avoid any interruption of recreational users' view of the Clutha River.
