The annual mountain bike ride finished another Cromwell Summer Series of sporting events around the town, organised by the Cromwell and Districts Promotion Group.
One hundred mountain bikers from Alexandra, Arrowtown, Clyde, Cromwell, Dunedin, Invercargill, Mosgiel, Queenstown, Roxburgh, Wanaka and Wyndham took part in the race, as well as one man who ran the 31km track.
Wanaka resident David Drake (37) won the race with a time of 1:30:11 in his first attempt at the annual event.
Mr Drake said the course was a great one to ride and he was happy with his time.
‘‘These are great events. It's what mountain-biking used to be like before the big races came along - a nice local relaxed feeling,'' he said.
Participants and supporters gathered at the Bannockburn Hotel after the race to refresh themselves in the sunny courtyard and congratulate winners of various categories.
Spot prizes were also given out and a major prize was drawn under police supervision.
