Early last year, the Ministry of Education approved a special property grant of about $320,000 for the school, which does not have a large communal space such as a hall.
Principal Doug White said the Central Lakes Trust had just confirmed a $100,000 grant to the school, enabling kitchen and toilet facilities to be included within the proposed multipurpose building, making it suitable for use by community groups outside school hours.
Mr White said the ministry had also approved additional funding for a classroom to be included within the new development, although an exact figure had not been confirmed.
The school roll had reached 152 and while zoning was still in place, the ministry was confident Clyde Primary would continue to grow steadily, he said.
Mr White said the board of trustees had to buy and upgrade an old school house on site, in order to move the school's library which had been temporarily taken over as a classroom.
Once the new building was complete it was possible the library would be incorporated within the space, he said.
