About 800 people celebrated the end of Old Cromwell Town's main tourist season at the annual Easter Markets in the historic precinct yesterday.

A fundraiser for Old Cromwell Inc, the annual Junction Function Easter market day, has been held for about 15 years.

Old Cromwell Inc manager Elisabeth Williamson said the sunshine and a gentle northwest breeze made for perfect weather.

People lingered within the precinct long after stalls had closed and entertainment finished.

A wakeboarding display, live music and entertainment, market stalls, and all of Old Cromwell's shops, cafes, and galleries were open from 10am to 3pm.

Barbecue food was also on hand to tempt hungry shoppers.

Mrs Williamson said the precinct's busy summer season generally finished about Easter, after which Old Cromwell's tenants shortened shop opening hours as visitor numbers dwindled through winter.

"It's essentially an Easter market which celebrates the end of our season.

"It was a wonderful day," she said.
