Two Central Otago women have resigned from positions in local authority.

Cromwell Community Board member Vic Coster has moved to Southland for a career change after training as a teacher, and Central Otago District Council member Lynley Claridge, of Alexandra, stepped down as the Alexandra ward representative on the council's roading and infrastructure subcommittees.

Mrs Claridge will remain a councillor.

At the council's meeting in Alexandra this week she said changes in circumstances had made it difficult for her to attend subcommittee meetings.

Fellow councillor and former Alexandra Community Board member Steve Battrick was appointed to replace Mrs Claridge on the subcommittees.

The Cromwell board will discuss a replacement for Ms Coster at its next meeting on Monday.

Her resignation was received on November 2 and took immediate effect.

Ms Coster, who lived in Cromwell for about five years, has not returned calls.

A council report on her resignation recommended her vacancy be left unfilled given the "limited" time remaining until next year's local body elections in October.

Ms Coster was elected to the board in October 2007 aged 28.

It was her first foray into local body politics.

As that time the Cromwell youth worker, she aimed to further develop positive options for young people in the town.

She was the board's youngest member.
