Contribution rewarded

Shirley Alabaster is the latest person to be awarded a Paul Harris Fellowship by the Alexandra Rotary Club, which is the highest honour the club can make.

At a function in Alexandra last night, Mrs Alabaster was presented with a medal, citation, and certificate by outgoing Alexandra Rotary president Ken Cook.

Mr Cook said the fellowship was for people who made significant contributions to Rotary or the outside community.

Mrs Alabaster, who is not a Rotary member, had never been shy about helping out in the community, he said.

"Much of the progress of building the new Dunstan Hospital is due to her valuable contribution through administration, co-ordination, and her talent for fundraising, at which she excels," Mr Cook said.
