During the past six months, the Central Lakes Trust has granted nearly $1.9 million to community and charitable projects.
Included was $600,000 given to the Alexandra Community House Trust, bringing the total amount it has been given to $1.67 million, the third largest grant the Central Lakes Trust has given out.
The two largest grants went to the Queenstown Aquatic Centre and Central Otago Health, with both receiving $2 million each.
More than $2 million has also been granted for technology in schools, which was spread over several different projects. For the July to September quarter the trust granted $1.185 million to 27 charities and community organisations.
The trust covers Wanaka, Queenstown, Arrowtown, Cromwell, Roxburgh, Alexandra, Makarora, Milford Sound, Raes Junction, and St Bathans.
Trust chief executive Paul Allison said it was important for the trust to help the Community House project, which would provide a range of benefits to the Central Otago region.
"They provided us with a pretty clear view that the project would be beneficial to the community."
The Alexandra Bowling club was given $100,000 towards upgrading its facilitates so capacity can be increased from 70 to 250 people, enabling it to be used by the community for larger recreational events, Mr Allison said.
Another major recipient was the Roxburgh Community Events Centre, which received $110,000 towards upgrading the pavilion at the Roxburgh Sports Ground.
The trust was created in 2000 and received about $120 million from the deregulation of the Otago Central Electric Power Board.
