Alexandra's Elim Church has been granted resource consent to establish its services within a former community art centre and gallery in Tarbert St.
The Alexandra Elim Church Trust applied for land use consent to use existing buildings within part of the Alexandra Town Belt Recreation Reserve.
It was granted consent subject to 19 conditions relating to restricted parking spaces, access, sealing of manoeuvring areas, and accordance with traffic management plans.
Drapes were also to be installed to mitigate noise from the property, and amplified music or speech was restricted to between 9am and 10.30pm, with no more than six extensions to midnight each year.
At a hearing of the application last month, trust representative Ken Taylor told panel members a building on site would eventually be expanded so up to 160 people could attend certain events.
Mr Taylor said the congregation was now about 50 people.
