The Maniototo Community Board has granted a request from the Upper Taieri Water Resource Management Group for $1200 towards the development of a catchment-based community water management model.
The board made a decision at its meeting in Ranfurly yesterday.
Funding will be split over two years and help implement community water management models for the Upper Taieri area which are set to replace existing mining privileges or deemed permits which expire in 2021.
Chairman Richard Smith said the board recognised the importance of water management in the area, and applauded the group's good work.
Six-hundred dollars will be provided in the board's general grant budget for 2009 and another $600 will be incorporated in the 2010-11 annual plan.
