Blossom festival draws thousands (with pictures)

Bad weather delayed Alexandra's annual Blossom Festival float parade by an hour today, although thousands of people still managed to brave cold, windy, and wet conditions to watch the procession.

More than 16 floats were entered this year by a range of organisations, each with their own Blossom Festival princess.

Bands, marching girls, and clowns worked the crowd as they paraded down Centennial Ave.

The sun managed to peek through cloud during the afternoon, when many families were entertained by a myriad of stalls and rides in Pioneer Park.

Mud was rife throughout the park however, from the morning's southerly front which bombarded the area with snow, wind, and rain.

Despite that, the stage is set for tonight's Contact Alex Live concert in the park, where New Zealand performers Hollie Smith, Atlas, Spacifix, and The Valves will play to hundreds of fans.
