Being without an arm or leg did not stop more than 20 amputees from throughout New Zealand and Australia playing 18 holes of golf at Cromwell yesterday, in the first part of the two-day 2008 Amputee Golf Tournament.
With golf buggies on hand to help them around the course, amputees kept pace with able-bodied people who helped make up numbers in the competition.
Among the players were two women, one of whom had survived a shark attack that left her without the bottom of her left leg.
Liz Rogers, of Wanaka, was staying at islands north of Fiji when she was attacked about nine years ago.
She managed 18 holes yesterday and planned the same today.
Dinner and a mid-event prizegiving were held last night at the Cromwell Golf Course clubrooms and a main function will be held tonight at The Chalets in Cromwell.
