Dunedin Craft Beer Expo organiser Matthew Black said about 2000 people attended the event .
With snow forecast, he had expected about 1400 people but morning sunshine spurred a surge of late ticket sales, he said.
''The forecast really put a dampener on things - it slowed down ticket sales - but the result in the end was fantastic.''
To shelter from the forecast bad weather, exhibitors had set up on the railway platform, rather than the uncovered farmers' market area, as intended.
The platform provided plenty of room for people, who could also drink in one of the seven Taieri Gorge Railway carriages, he said.
Although a southerly wind later in the night ''chased a few people home'' early, the feedback from the exhibitors and the crowd was positive, he said.
Mr Black said he would talk to stakeholders and exhibitors this week and then decide if the event would return to Dunedin.
''It has got the makings of a really cool event and of having a real solid future down here.''
