Volunteers are being sought to help develop Dunedin into a "fantastic" destination for visitors.
The Dunedin City Council is calling for people who are interested in helping guide the city’s new destination management plan.
The DCC is seeking six representatives — two from the community, three from the visitor sector and one from mana whenua — to join a new Dunedin destination management plan advisory group.
The volunteers will join two councillors — the chair of the council’s economic development committee and a second councillor — to create a panel.
Dunedin Destination manager Sian Sutton said the advisory group would help guide the implementation of the DCC’s plan, monitor its progress and share developments with the community.
"It’s a great chance to get involved in helping make sure our city’s visitor sector is well managed and sustainable, and that Ōtepoti Dunedin continues to be a fantastic destination for visitors from around the motu and overseas."
Ideal candidates would need to have a broad knowledge of, and experience across, a range of activities in Dunedin and the visitor economy.
Destination management planning is described as bringing together different stakeholders to achieve the common goal of developing a well-managed, sustainable visitor destination.
"Through the [plan], we view destination management as a shared journey — one that will be navigated using our collective resources, experience and wisdom."
Members of the public have until March 3, 2025 to apply for one of the voluntary positions and can apply by emailing advisorypanel@dcc.govt.nz.
A final decision will be made by the council.
