Fifteen Alexandra electricity customers are using generators for the next few days while a cable fault is fixed.
Aurora Energy operations and risk general manager John Campbell, of Dunedin, said the fault occurred about 8.30 on Thursday night, affecting three transformers, and initially cutting power to between 300 and 400 households. Power to most was restored quickly.
Yesterday the lines company brought in generators for 15 remaining customers.
It would take until early next week to fix the fault.
"We’ve put generators in while we now go about repairing the cable fault."
The cause of the fault was unknown, and its exact location was yet to be found.
"Typically a little hole in the cable is what occurs.
"Somebody might have dug it up, or it can just be a standard fault in the cable."
Mr Campbell said the fault was "totally unrelated" to the pole reinforcement programme under way in the area.
"There are assets that at times will fault and we will repair them."
