XT Network operational again after morning outage

Telecom's troubled XT network is now running fully again in the top of the North Island after a three-hour outage today.

Thousands of users north of Taupo experienced problems with calling, text and data services following the outage, which began at 9am.

Telecom spokeswoman Katherine Murphy said the trouble seemed to have originated at individual cell sites linked to one of the Auckland-based Radio Network Controllers (RNCs).

The problems had been intermittent and connected to individual cell sites, meaning people in some areas north of Taupo were more affected than others.

The service was back to full operation by 1pm.

Ms Murphy said 111 calls were monitored during the outage.

It was the first significant outage in the top of the North Island but came after four serious outages in the South Island and the lower half of the North Island.

Ms Murphy said all those outages were connected to the Christchurch RNCs and today's problems were unrelated.

She said the two Christchurch RNCs and the second Auckland RNC was unaffected today.
