The Otago and Southland district health boards' compensation package from Telecom is worth about $24,300, says regional chief information officer Grant Taylor.
Mr Taylor said he was satisfied with the compensation for the poor performance of the troubled XT network, to which nearly a quarter of staff had switched.
Telecom compensated the DHBs for all rentals for a month, and 50% of rentals for a further three months. The boards' mobile budget is about $600,000 for the 2009-10 year.
Mr Taylor said the compensation helped make up for a $55,000 year to date overspent on the use of mobiles.
