Stadium to host world record paint fighting attempt

Forsyth Barr Stadium is set to host a world record attempt for paint fighting, as several thousand revellers, dressed in white, are doused in 3000kg of coloured UV paint.

The Otago University Students' Association confirmed the stadium would be the venue for the Illuminate Paint Party, which features DJs, entertainment - and lots of paint.

The July 10 event is expected to attract 5000 party-goers as part of Reorientation week.

OUSA communications co-ordinator Alasdair Johnston said the association approached paint party organisers ''because we recognise that this is an important event for students''.

That move prompted a shift from the Edgar Centre to the stadium, following some safety concern over last year's sold-out event, he said.

The paint party, which encourages partygoers to wear white, would feature an adjudicator from Guinness World Records who could confirm whether the event breaks the record for the world's largest paint fight.

At midnight, 3000kg of luminous non-toxic paint will be sprayed over the crowd. A paint slide, Zorb and paint guns are also set to feature.
