A man was flown to Dunedin Hospital with "life-threatening injuries" after a car crashed into a ditch at the far end of Otago Peninsula last night.
Another person in the vehicle, a 19-year-old man, was found unconscious in the ditch with moderate injuries in the 8.45pm crash on Dick Road, Portobello, police said.
The road was blocked for a time while emergency services attended and was closed overnight to allow Serious Crash Unit to conduct a scene examination this morning.
Both injured people were taken to Dunedin Hospital.
Enquiries into the crash were ongoing and blood samples had been taken from both men, a police spokesman said.
A Hato Hone St John spokeswoman said one ambulance, one rapid response vehicle and a helicopter had been dispatched to the scene on the road out to The Pyramids, near Papanui Inlet.
