Dunedin destination manager Sian Sutton announced four acts, fresh from performances at the Auckland International Buskers Festival, in an Enterprise Dunedin statement promoting the market on Saturday, yesterday.
Fire Ninja (Australia), Richard Circus Entertainment (Ghana/ Taiwan), Andy Spigola (Italy) and Daigoro (Italy) will entertain alongside seven local entertainers and musicians due to take the main stage at the centre of the market, she said.
"The inaugural George Street Market is thrilled to reveal this world-class talent,’’ Ms Sutton said.
‘‘They’ll bring international flare, literally, to the market with acrobatics, street magic and illusion, clowning and comedy and an incredible fire performance.’’
About 200 stalls featuring crafts, jewellery, apparel, cosmetics, decor, and art, would make up the market, she said.
Most stallholders hailed from the Otago region (80%), but vendors would also travel from Southland, Canterbury, Auckland and Nelson for the market.
Artisanal food producers will have their own stalls, and there will also be a dedicated food truck zone with about 20 vendors.
The market, described as ‘‘the next iteration of the Thieves Alley Market’’, would involve partially closing some central city streets and congestion was expected, she said.
Orbus buses would be free for passengers between 10am and 4pm to support the event and help minimise traffic, she said. — APL
