A convoy of two Subarus, allegedly stolen in Invercargill, was halted after the vehicles were spiked outside Milton and on State Highway 8 — the Manuka Gorge Highway — on Saturday.
Senior Sergeant Anthony Bond, of Dunedin said that the two Subarus were being driven through the Balclutha and Clinton area when police saw them at 12.50pm.
One of the cars was being driven by a 14-year-old girl and the other by a 31-year-old man.
When police attempted to stop the vehicles, both sped off.
One vehicle drove on the opposite side of the road, forcing police to abandon pursuit.
The other Subaru took off down some side roads in the Balclutha area.
The Subaru driven by the 31-year-old was seen in Milton and was spiked by police.
The vehicle came to a stop in Springfield Rd, where the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled.
He was soon located by police at a nearby property, arrested and charged with unlawfully getting into a motor vehicle and breach of release conditions.
The car had a 28-year-old passenger, who was arrested and charged with unlawfully getting into a stolen vehicle.
The second Subaru driven by the 14-year-old continued north towards Dunedin, where she allegedly carried out a petrol drive-off at the Z station in Mosgiel.
The car then headed south and on to SH8, where it was spiked by police.
A 19-year-old man was a passenger in the car.
The 14-year-old was arrested and charged with dangerous driving, unlawfully taking a motor vehicle and assaulting police.
She will appear in court at a later date.
Her passenger was also arrested and charged with failing to stop, two charges of driving while disqualified, unlawfully getting into a motor vehicle, unlawfully taking a motor vehicle and charges of stealing from cars a few days earlier.
