Wind-affected flight diverted to Dunedin

A flight between Auckland and Christchurch had an unexpected pit-stop in Dunedin after high winds prevented touchdown in Christchurch.

This afternoon, the mother of a passenger on flight NZ527 from Auckland said in a social media post that after two attempted landings in Christchurch, the flight was diverted to Dunedin Airport.

"Thankfully, everyone is rattled, but safe," she said.

They landed in Dunedin at 11.33am, about an hour and a-half after their expected arrival time into Christchurch.

An Air New Zealand spokeswoman said flight NZ527 was diverted due to strong winds in Christchurch and landed at Dunedin airport to refuel before making more attempts.

Passengers on board the diverted aircraft left Dunedin at 2pm and landed in Christchurch Airport about an hour later.
