SPCA Otago spokeswoman Kirsty Thomson said animal owners had a week to claim their pets from the shelter before they became available for adoption.
The public donated more than $2200 to pay for operations for the long-haired ginger cat Lazarus, whose jaw was broken, tibia fractured and pelvis damaged when he was hit by a car in rush-hour traffic in South Rd, Caversham, last week.
The deadline for Lazarus' owner to claim him expired yesterday.
Although Lazarus was available for adoption, he needed several weeks of rest at the shelter, Ms Thomson said.
