An injured driver was taken to Dunedin Hospital after being cut from a stock car at a Dunedin speedway on Friday.
Beachlands Speedway spokesman Mark Newall said a visiting driver was competing in a heat of the New Zealand Street Stock title in Waldronville, when the street stock car he was driving crashed with another.
''Two vehicles came together in an unusual manner ... there was no malice or attacking involved ... he happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time and another car collided with him,'' Mr Newall said.
The injury to the man's shoulder was not life threatening, he said.
A Fire Service southern communications spokeswoman said firefighters from Lookout Point Station were called to the Waldronville track about 9.30pm to cut open the roll cage of the stock car so ambulance staff could remove the driver.
A St John spokeswoman said the driver had minor injuries and was taken by ambulance to Dunedin Hospital.
