Mr Turner, whose songs were covered by international folk artists, and who was a foundation member of various Dunedin folk clubs, died on February 2 aged 59.
Friend and band mate Mike Moroney said Mr Turner was known "right from the off'' as a multi-instrumentalist, as well as playing guitar, singing and writing songs "superior to anything else that was coming out locally at the time''.
Mr Turner had a minor hit in the early 1980s with The Civil Service Song, a satirical piece about being a public servant, recorded on the EMI label.
His songs were recorded by international artists, including Irish folk musician Andy Irvine.
He was also a presenter on children's television series Spot On, and others.
Mr Turner's funeral is on Friday.
An obituary will follow.
