Fire Service kept busy

A 19-year-old man was charged for breach of bail, disorderly behaviour and threatening to kill after a night of disorder in North Dunedin.

A Fire Service spokesman said firefighters from Willowbank Station were called to four couch fires between 9.30pm on Tuesday and 2.51am yesterday.

They were first called to a couch fire and a tree on fire in George St at 9.30pm on Tuesday.

Another couch fire in the front section of a Castle St house was extinguished about 11pm and a couch fire in the middle of Leith St early yesterday.

They were also called to another couch fire in the middle of Howe St about 3am yesterday.

A police dog handler was called to a George St business in North Dunedin, after three men unlawfully entered an office about 4am yesterday and stole a bottle of wine.

Senior Sergeant Darryl Lennane, of Dunedin, said police had been busy in North Dunedin.

‘‘We attended a number of calls relating to the disorder.''

Five people were arrested. Four were give pre-charge warnings, Senior Sergeant James Ure, of Dunedin, said a 19-year-old man was charged for breach of bail, disorderly behaviour and threatening to kill.
