Dunedin accommodation is filling up for October's Bledisloe Cup rugby encounter, prompting Jetstar to add a late-night flight and Air New Zealand to run extra services.

Yesterday, Jetstar confirmed an extra flight would be added for the Saturday, October 19 encounter after discussions with Dunedin International Airport.

''We've now scheduled an extra domestic service that will enable Auckland fans to enjoy the game and then head home on a special late-night flight,'' the airline's New Zealand head, Grant Kerr, said.

The flight would depart Dunedin at 11.55pm and arrive in Auckland at 1.40am on Sunday.

The extra capacity was required because accommodation was in high demand.

An Air New Zealand spokeswoman said the airline was ''bolstering capacity'' with four additional return services: three from Christchurch and one from Wellington.

Larger aircraft would also be flying into the city from Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch, while a charter service, hosted by Sir Graham Henry and former All Black Jeff Wilson, would also feature.

A Dunedin Venues Management Ltd spokesman said 23,700 tickets for the All Blacks v Wallabies match had been sold, with capacity for the Forsyth Barr Stadium clash just over 29,000.

Dunedin Visitor Centre manager Louise van de Vlierd said, while most central city accommodation providers were almost full, rooms were still available.

''It is getting tight, but I would be really surprised if we don't get cancellations coming through at the last minute.

''I have never known the town to be totally sold out on the day yet.''

Plenty of accommodation options remained within an hour's journey of the city, at least one operator providing transport options from Oamaru.
