Cyclist seriously hurt in Larnach Rd

A 76-year-old man has been seriously injured after an early-morning crash in Dunedin's Larnach Rd.

Police say they were notified of a crash involving a cyclist at 1.40am today and part of the road between Marne and Challis Sts was closed for hours.

Senior Sergeant Anthony Bond said it was not known if the man was hit by a car or had just come off his bike.

The man was found unconscious by a member of the pubic and was currently in intensive care, he said.

Investigations were continuing and the serious crash unit had been notified.

The road was open again by 9am.
