Drunken people made fewer visits to Otago's hospital emergency departments in December.
Dunedin Hospital emergency department clinical leader Caroline Collins said fewer patients with alcohol-related conditions visited Dunedin Hospital's emergency department in December than in December 2014.
The number of patients with alcohol-related conditions visiting Lakes District Hospital emergency department in December was about the same as in December 2014, Dr Collins said.
In December, 152 people with alcohol-related issues visited the emergency departments in Dunedin and Lakes District Hospitals.
The patients accounted for about 4% of the more than 3600 presentations to the departments.
The average age of patients with alcohol-related conditions was 34.
Almost half of the patients were under 25 years of age, she said.
