The Mosgiel Plunket Clinic has been given $4000 by the Mosgiel Taieri Community Board to fence a children's playground for public use.
Plunket community services leader Catherine Caley asked for $4500 towards the project, which she expects will cost between $6000 and $7000.
For the project, a 12m by 13m area would be fenced outside the Mosgiel Plunket Rooms at Anzac Park in Church St.
The fence would allow children to play safely outdoors while attending Plunket play groups, she said.
The project was expected to be complete in six months and the shortfall would come from the Plunket Society and fundraising.
After the project was finished, the clinic would look at installing play equipment suitable for children aged under 5.
The playground would be open for public use, she said.
Every board member - including Cr Kate Wilson, supported the board giving $4000.
''If you can make it easier for parents to turn up with a child and their sibling and do it safely, that has to be a good thing,'' Cr Wilson said.
